The Palaeontological Collection

The palaeontological collection consists of ancient animal and plant fossils from Latvia and surrounding territories. Among them are 430 million-year-old corral fossils and 160 million-year-old mollusc shells as well as the relatively recent bones of woolly mammoths and other Quaternary period animals. The most valuable part of the museum’s palaeontological collection is its diverse fish fossil collection from the Devonian period.
